Here's what people are saying about .....

Randy Barker is one of the best dog trainers in West Virginia.  Next to us, Randy has hunted with Geronimo more than anyone else.  His cousin raised one of the best litters of Apache pups ever.  They had planned to drive to Mississippi to breed their female to Apache again.  After hunting extensively with Geronimo, they bred to him instead.  Randy said, "Geronimo is a once-in-a-lifetime dog for anyone."

Without question, Allen Franklin has owned some of the best dogs anywhere.  Recently, after hunting against Geronimo in the 2005 National Hunting and Fishing Day Squirrel Hunt, again in the Big Red Challenge squirrel hunt, and finally in the 2005 World Nite Hunt, Allen said, "I think Geronimo is going to be a better competition dog than Apache."

In the fall of 2005, Randy Moore won two squirrel hunts and a coon hunt on two consecutive weekends with two different dogs.  In between, he hunted for several hours with Geronimo on an afternoon squirrel hunt with one of his best feists, 2005-6 Big Red Challenge Champion Gretchen.  Randy hunted against Geronimo in the last cast of the 2005 World Squirrel hunt where Geronimo won Reserve World Champion.  He says, "Geronimo is the best cur dog I've ever been in the woods with."

Ernie Allen knows a coon dog when he sees one.  He owns UKC 4-Way Grand Champion and WTDA Grand World Nite Champion Screamin' Blue Ann's Baby Girl.  He recently judged the final cast of curs in the 2005 WTDA World Nite Hunt.  After the hunt, he said about Geronimo, "Geronimo did all the work.  That dog has a heck of a nose."

Pennsylvanians Roger Wagner and Tom Rogers have some top quality OMCBA females.  After watching Geronimo completely dominate a 3-dog WTDA Squirrel Champion cast on May 20, 2006, Roger commented... "Geronimo hunts hard, gets treed, stays treed, and has the meat.  I don't know what more you could ask for in a squirrel dog."  Here's what Tom posted on Squirrel Dog Central the next day...

"Yesterday Roger Wagner and I headed to Jane Lew, WV to a squirrel hunt. We got to hunt with one of the nicest little squirrel dogs that I have ever been to the woods with - Mountain State Geronimo. The reason we went down is to see him and we weren't disappointed. He put on a show! If things go right I will be breeding Echo to Geronimo on the next cycle. You guys that are looking for a stud to breed to better go to the woods him. You will like him."

Geronimo's Puppies

Mike Smith of Calvin, KY... says of his 11-month-old female out of Geronimo and Holly... "She is a go getter,  she burns up the woods and is treeing her own squirrel.  She has a lot of work to do to become finished,  but I dont think it will be long.  I have really enjoyed owning her.  I look forward to the day when Gage (My Son) is able to go hunting with me and share in such a wonderful experience."

Bob Ranson, of Kenna, WV, made this post on the Squirrel Dog Message Board... "I took my old dog and two feist pups out this morning. My 10 week old pup out of Geronimo and [Franklin's] Lady carried on so bad I just let her out too. They treed three times the first one I picked the pup up and went to the tree. When I got there, the pup went to the tree and put her feet on the tree just like a old dog I patted her and she barked up the tree some. The second tree she done the same I had to pick her up, but when she got there she was on the tree. The third tree she beat me to the tree when I got there she was right beside my old dog up on the tree matching her bark for bark. I want to thank Adam and Chuck for letting me get the pup. I think they will make some good ones."

Here is what Eddie Mullins posted on www.squirrelhaters.net in July, 2006... (Mountain State Muzzy is the son of Geronimo and Pepper, born on 12/13/05)  See the picture below and a video above showing Muzzy at 12 months.

"This is how me and Muzzy started the morning off in the back yard. I turned him and a couple others loose and Muzzy got hooked. My old dog timbered the squirrel out, but Muzzy stuck to his tree.

Folks, smite me if you will, but I just checked his papers and he want be 7 months old til the 13th, and for his age, he is the best pup I think I have ever seen. I think I may have finally gotten the intense tree dog I have been looking for."

This report came from Bret Tustin of Poteah, OK, the day after his Geronimo X Pepper pup turned 9 months old...

"Savage is coming along well. He made what I would call his first tree this morning. Watched him work the track and wind until he settled on a big oak tree. He treed HARD and was letting him have it. Naturally I could not locate the squirrel. So many leaves, holes and huge? I have no doubt he was up there somewhere. Sure wished I could have done my part for him, but it was awesome watching him. Looks like Geronimo on the tree."

(Sadly, Savage was hit by a car and killed the next day.  Savage is pictured below.)

Randy Barker called to tell Adam about his recent experience with three Geronimo pups.  Randy and Dave Binegar had the three pups (ages 5, 6, and 7 months out of three different females) on a squirrel tube.  He said all three pups "barked every breath, with their feet on the tree, and never even look at each other."

Dave Binegar bred his fine female, Mercy, to Geronimo in 2006.  He called to tell us that his male pup treed two squirrels by himself in the woods, treeing on the tree and treeing hard.  The pup held one tree while Dave shot out a squirrel to his other dog treed about 75 yards away.  Dave said his Geronimo pup is by far "the best pup he's ever seen."

Gene Hensley of East Galesburg, IL, bought his pup, Mountain State Hammer(Geronimo X Pepper) from us last summer.  Gene writes that now, at age 5 months, Hammer "has already treed three wild squirrels in the woods all by himself."

Three months later, we received this message...

"MR. LOUDIN,
HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF MOUNTAIN STATE HAMMER AT 8 MONTHS OLD. THESE ARE BETTER SHOTS THAN THE 5 MONTH OLD PICTURES. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PUT SOME ON THE COMPUTER. THE PUP STARTED WORKING SQUIRREL BY SCENT AND TREEING AT 3 1/2 MONTHS OLD. HE HAS PROGRESSED EACH TIME OUT, AND MAKING A GOOD HARD SLOBBER MOUTH TREE DOG. HE IS REAL SMART, LEARNS THINGS WITH VERY FEW SESSIONS WITH HIM. THIS DOG IS GOING TO MAKE A GOOD SQUIRREL OR COON DOG IN A SHORT TIME AND ALMOST THERE NOW.  MR LOUDIN I LIKE THESE SLOBBER MOUTH DOG'S. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TAKE THEM TO THE WOODS. LATER ON I WOULD LIKE TO GET A FEMALE FROM THE SAME CROSS. GERONIMO X PEPPER. I WILL SEND SOME MORE PICTURES WHEN HE GET'S 1 YR. OLD. THANKS GENE HENSLEY"

Ed Baldwin of Lansing, Michigan, left a message on our answering machine.  He was calling from a tree where his pup, Mountain State Alok, had worked a track and treed a squirrel.  Alok sure sounded like a tree dog!  Ed says the pup (not yet 6 months old) has treed several in the woods by scent.

Ron Simons and his son, Israel bought a pretty brindle puppy from Geronimo and Holly, and named him Mountain State Cherokee Chief.  Today, (February 16) Ron sent me this email:

"Just wanted to update you on Chief's progress.  Right now squirrels are not moving much. In spite of that,  Chief has managed to tree his first two squirrels.  The first I got to shoot out for him.  The second was in the middle of a briar patch, he really worked this one hard.  Chief finally settled on a large pine,in the middle of the patch.  I couldn't find this one, but fresh tracks in the snow pretty well convinced me he had the right tree.  We feel like he's doing ok for five months old. We will keep you updated as he grows."

Update on Chief.... March 27, 2007...
"Israel and I wanted to update you on Chief.  We have him out quite a bit,  but still not a lot moving.  Chief caught a coon on the ground a couple weeks ago.  The coon managed to bite Chief on the upper lip,  which brought considerable pain and blood.  The coon climbed an old apple tree. Chief in spite of being bitten, still treed.  We are really pleased that he never let the coon scare him,  not bad for a pup just 6 1/2 months old.
Just this morning we had Chief out before it got hot.  He treed a gray on a pin oak.  He really has began maturing in the last few weeks.  We stayed away from the tree,  and Chief never left it.  here are a couple pictures of Chief treeing the squirrel.  he will be 7 months the 31st of March.  we are pleased with Chief and think he will turn out to be a really  good dog."
                            Thanks,
                             Ron and Israel Simons
Don Barnette recently wrote me about his pup from Geronimo and Sq. Ch. Nolo Ridge Echo...

The pup is now 4 months old and weighs about 30 lb.  He is dark brindle with a white nose and all 4 white feet. ... He was taught to sit, walk with a leash, come  to you-- just in 15 minutes of working with him.    I have other pet dogs he plays with-- no ill temper ever.  He loves kids and all people he comes in contact.   He loves to ride in the truck seat beside me.

Now, the important stuff.  I carry him in the woods at least 6 days a week hunting and walking.  Right now he stays really close, but will occasionally goes medium.   I didn't have many squirrels behind my house in the woods so I put up some feeder last week and the squirrels are beginning to come back to this area.

He has always used his nose great by digging up moles.  He loves to chase cats, birds etc...

Well, yesterday I saw a squirrel in the woods by the feeder.  Before  I could get him in the woods the squirrel had ran across the log road and up a oak tree.  Well, as soon as he hit the smell he trailed it to the oak tree and barked like crazy....      I didn't have a gun so the squirrel went in a hole.
Update on this pup (now named Geronimo Echo Jr.)... As of December, 2007, at the age of 13 months, Don has entered Jr. in two UKC hunts, placing 3rd in one and 1st in the other!  Jr. also scored a Best of Show and 1st in one of the treeing contests!  Below is a picture of Jr. at 10 months after a good hunt.  By February, Jr. was the first Squirrel Champion out of Geronimo.

Here is what Travis Thompson said of his Geronimo X Pepper pup on March 11, 2007, when his pup was 7 months old...

"Well I guess Tonto's not the only one from this litter turning it on. My full littermate to this pup treed his first one today also... what was so amazing was the style in which he done it. He had treed with my older female on a couple but had not done it on his own yet until today. What impressed me more than anything else was it was not a sight chase.  He winded this squirrel and set off treed like I had never heard him before... my older 20 month old female came in and backed him. This time she didn't have a clue it was there cause she had already passed it up. Look out boys these Geronimo pups are coming on."

Geronimo's Puppies

Brian Looney of Bland, VA, owns Katie, a pup from Geronimo and Bear Creek Dee.  Here is the message Brian sent when Katie was 6 1/2 months old.

"Hey Chuck, had a great hunt this morning.  Went out for about 2 hours before work.  Cut them loose and never seen them all morning except at the trees.  Katie hunts as deep as Thunder.  Made 5 trees...Thunder had first tree twice, seen two squirrels...Tank had first tree twice, seen one squirrel...and the last first tree...Katie.  She did an excellent job on it as well.  Barked 10-12 times before the other dogs came in an backed her.  Seen the squirrel, and it timbered out, and she followed it.  Started shooting...but it made it to the den.  I was quite excited, and loved her up real good.  Greg's pup is doing better as well.  I wonder how the other pups are doing.  That might be a cross that is worth making again. "

Dorman See of Moorefield, WV bought a pup out of Geronimo and Ray Thornton's Jewel.  The pup was born in March, 2007.  Dorman called the day his pup, South Fork Wrangler, was 7 months and 2 days old.  He was pretty pleased that he had shot 4 squirrels out to Wrangler that day.  He was pretty sure that he had treed one or two by sight, but also certain that he treed at least one by scent only.  Wrangler treed well and stayed treed - not bad for a puppy!

Dorman sent us some pictures from December 27, 2007...  Wrangler was 9 months old on 12/17/07.  "As of today, he has had 24 squirrels shot out to him and caught 2 more on the ground.  My family and I are getting a lot of enjoyment out of him!"  Below is Dorman's son Branson, with Wrangler in another picture Dorman sent in January.

Chuck Felty of Kenova, WV, bred his female Bartlett's Jessie to Geronimo in the summer of 2006.  Above and below are the two pups he kept for himself.  Chuck sent us a letter in which he writes, "Everyone that goes out with them says they are the best they have ever seen - not to mention that they are only 16 months old."

Above is Randy Barker with his Geronimo pup, Raisin, who was 2008 Big Red Reserve Squirrel Champion before she was a year old.  Randy says she is the best young dog he's ever trained.  If you know some of the dogs he has trained, that says a LOT!

Mississippian Paul Beam owns Mountain State Raven, a female out of Geronimo and Pepper.  When Raven was 13 months old, Paul posted this video of Raven, saying "She trees like this on every tree."

Danny Hamilton posted this on Squirrel Dog Central in March, 2008... This is my 7 1/2 old pup Kimi Sioux.  This week she has turned on. I have never had a dog that has excited me this much and done so well. She has treed 8 squirrels this week by herself. Went yesterday with my buddy and his dog and she split treed and held pressure and she had the squirrel. I know there are other dogs that are better but I have never owned a pup this good!!!   (Check out the videos below.)
